Steven Guitard, newly known as Merchant, is a multidisciplinary techno deejay born in Stoney Creek, Ontario. At just 23 years old, he’s already looking to infuse his stomping grounds with some light-hearted energy, bouncy percussion, and deep grooves—all elements of old-school techno that have seemingly faded over recent years.
Obsessed with the power of sound and its ability to evoke pure, primal emotion, ‘the Merchant’ began indulging in countless genres scattered across the dance music spectrum, eventually taking refuge in the dastardly realm of techno. Drawing inspiration from contemporary performers like future.666 and Chlär, Steven gradually developed a mixing style that blends fast, hypnotic beats with groovy rhythms, creating a seriously hip-swaying experience for his audiences.
Based in Toronto, Merchant has had the opportunity to showcase his talents in some of the city’s hottest underground dance venues, including Supermarket and Bassline Music Bar. With a quickly growing fanbase, he’s managed to share the stage with rising local legends like Varon and My Pet Monster. Beyond the music, Steven’s warm and approachable personality has helped him forge meaningful connections with fans and industry professionals alike.
